| Exir | Mar 1, 2006 8:53pm | | Is any human able to achieve an ELO rating of 2900? I know it may sound silly, but isn't the same thing said about an Elo rating of 2800? And Kasparov passed the 2800 line. Can any human pass the 2900 line? |

With more players getting above 2700, and two (Anand and Topalov) actually being just above 2800, - chances are that eventually players will reach 2900. But as it stands today, the highest rating ever achieved was Kasparov with just above 2850 in his peak rating. I believe that for anyone to reach 2900, - there has to be a significant number of opponents above 2700, or a GM has to be extremely strong, - like Kasparov at his peak, or stronger. |

Well, I think someday someone will reach it. But does it matter? Beautiful chess games matter!

the game of chess was last 'simplified' by Capablanca...that style defeated anything to do with knights/bishop combinations which are ample as shown by Lasker...
the attack at all cost era of chess(bobby, kasparov) is again here to be re-examined...computers are able to learn a lot from playing black...thus, we always must improve our playing with blacks to defeat stronger opponents...
the rating itself is not important, is really a measure of the state of chess at different points...
whats truly remarkable, we can truly say now, Capablanca was the strongest chess player ever...
Anad should defeat firtz soon...
